Emperor: Google Ads Campaign Planning and Demand Analysis

Overview

Open Marketing. Emperor is a read-only analytics and planning layer for Google Ads: it shows account, campaign, ad group, and search-term data and does not create, update, pause, or delete Google Ads entities. Budget, negatives, and ad copy are changed in Google Ads or Google Ads Editor.

Intended users: in-house marketing managers and operators doing weekly reviews before changing live campaigns.

Google products

Google Ads — linked campaigns only: campaigns, ad groups, search-term metrics (clicks, impressions, CTR, cost, conversions), and cost/conversion rollups.

Google Search Console — organic demand for the linked site: top queries, trends, and missing-query suggestions vs. the campaign keyword list.

Google Trends (CSV import only) — export related queries from the Trends UI; Emperor imports the CSV into Keyword Workbench. Trends are not collected automatically.

Connect

Google Ads: link one or more Google Ads campaigns to an Emperor marketing campaign; only linked campaigns sync. Test connection verifies access.

Search Console: bind a verified property (URL-prefix or domain). Access is verified before the integration is marked connected.

Workflow

  1. Connect — link the marketing campaign to Google Ads and Search Console.
  2. Synchronize — pull Ads structure and last 30 days of search-term metrics; pull Search Console queries.
  3. Analyze — search terms, organic queries, keyword interest.
  4. Recommend — non-converting terms, low CTR, high-organic / paid-spend mismatches.
  5. Apply manually — change Google Ads or the site; Emperor never writes to Google Ads.

Campaign planning (Google Ads)

Setup: Marketing → campaign → Ad Groups → Test connection → save.

Sync: Ad Groups → Sync → linked campaigns, ad groups, and 30-day search-term metrics.

After sync:

  • Search terms — queries that triggered ads (clicks, CTR, cost, conversions); pick negatives in Google Ads.
  • CTR alerts — ad groups/terms below CTR thresholds.
  • Spend without conversions — budget with zero conversions.

All views are recommendations only. Ad copy generated from keywords stays as a draft in Emperor.

Demand analysis (Search Console + Trends)

Search Console: Content Optimization → Settings → property → sync top queries and daily trends.

Keyword Workbench combines organic queries from Search Console and campaign keywords (language, optional Trends metadata). Google Trends: Content Optimization header → Google Trends — export CSV → drop → preview → add phrases.

Compare organic vs. paid, then apply approved changes in Google Ads or Editor only.

Weekly review (suggested)

Sync Ads and Search Console → review spend without conversions and add negatives → review CTR alerts → compare organic vs. paid → import a fresh Trends CSV when exploring topics → apply changes in Google Ads.

Summary

Emperor combines Google Ads (read-only), Search Console, and Trends CSV import. Insights and drafts stay in Emperor; live campaign changes are manual in Google's tools.
